Hey, did you hear about ‘Such-n-such’?

Over the past week I have been doing an observational study of people, (including myself) talking about other people.
My finding was that we all spend far too much time talking about other people AND worrying about what other people are saying about us.
We are either ’big noting’ or ‘putting down’ and it’s all to feed our insecurities (which, I think it’s safe to say, we all have).
Here are some quotes from my week of observation. It’s important to note that all the quotes are people talking about someone they consider to be ‘a friend’:-
“I’m sure she’s having botox and I reckon she might have even had some lip filler – talk about plastic fantastic”. a woman talking about ‘a friend’
“He’s always been a show pony, I mean who needs 2 massive houses and a garage of flash cars. He’s a total w……” – a man talking about ‘a friend’
“I think she thinks I’m jealous, as if I would be jealous of her!” – a woman talking about ‘a friend’
“He has been sucking up to her for the past year, there’s no way he would have got that promotion without it” – a man talking about ‘a colleague’
“Can you believe she wears Hush Puppies! I would not be caught dead in those” - a woman talking about ‘a friend’
Here’s an excerpt from ‘Desiderata’ which I think we all need to model, for we are the grown ups you know!
“If you compare yourself with others , you may become bitter or vain, for always there will greater and lesser persons than yourself.”
EXERCISE: Take note of thyself this week and live by the saying “if you haven’t got anything nice to say don’t say anything at all”
